ISLAMABAD: M Phil Scholar Imran Ali from Department of Peace and Conflict Studies (PCS), National Defence University has been selected to participate in Afghan-Pakistan (Af-Pak) Youth Dialogue.
It is to be noted that Af-Pak Youth Dialogue is initiative of Peace Education and Development Foundation (PEAD), Islamabad and Afghanistan New Generation Organization, Kabul. After a rigorous selection procedure, eight youth members from each country have been selected this year to participate in this dialogue.
As part of the program, Mr. Imran spent a week in Kabul in May, 2015 along with other members of Pakistan youth delegation. During their stay, they not interacted with members of Afghan youth delegation but also met Afghan politicians, members of civil society and also visited Kabul University. Later, On a similar pattern, the Afghan delegation spent a week in Islamabad in August, 2015.
Sharing his experiences of Af-Pak Youth Dialogue, Mr. Imran noted that this program was a unique experience and helped him learn a lot. “During the times when we visited Kabul, the situation there was very tense. Same when they (Afghan delegation) came here, the situation at government level was very tense, “he said adding the tensions between two countries at the government level, youth delegations from both countries tried their best to bridge the gap.
Furthermore, according to Mr. Imran, the youth delegations also put forth a joint declaration in August and urged the Government of Pakistan to double the scholarships for Afghan students in Pakistan.
