Islamabad/ May 18, 2015: PhD scholar from NUST and alumnus of Department of Peace and Conflict Studies(PCS) Mr. Waseem Ifitkhar delivered a lecture on Islamic State (IS) at PCS here the other day.
Mr. Iftikhar was invited to share his thoughts under the initiative “Alumni guest lecture series” under which alumni of PCS deliver a lecture on their area of interest.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Waseem said that IS was the brain child of Israel and America. He contended that the creation of IS was part of the bigger game being played by Israel in redrawing the map of Middle East.
During presentations, Mr.Waseem also claimed that the IS head Abu Bakkar Al Baghdadi had been meeting Senator John Mc Cain.
In response to a question, he noted that the nature of regimes in Middle East, where minority ruled the majority, had been a factor in contributing towards the emergence of militant groups like IS. However he insisted that the Israeli and American plan was a major factor in creation of Islamic State.
Talking about the IS presence in Pakistan, he noted that there was lack of evidence to substantiate the presence of IS in the region. “Everyone (militant group) who wants to get noticed label themselves as Islamic State”, he remarked.
